Armalis backstops San Jose to a 3-1 win over San Antonio

Nov 6, 2016

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (3-2-0-1) used 25 Mantas Armalis saves to outlast the San Antonio Rampage (4-7-0-0), 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at SAP Center at San Jose.

Nikolay Goldobin has been San Jose's quarterback on the power play this year,  and he continued that on Sunday. The second-year pro feathered a pass to Kevin Labanc (4) on the man advantage, and Labanc took the tape-to-tape pass at the top of the far circle, loaded up a heavy shot, and placed the puck under Nathan Lieuwen's right arm and into the net at 9:00 of the first.

In the second, San Jose put just three shots on goal, but Goldobin displayed his touch again by setting up Rourke Chartier (3) in the slot with a pass from the left corner. Chartier quickly sniped a shot off the left post and into the back of the net at 11:56. On the other end, Armalis faced just six shots but was sensational by making several saves on high-quality Rampage chances.

In the final frame, San Antonio ruined Armalis's shutout bid on a 5-on-3 power play goal by Mike Sislo (3) at 12:48. But San Jose erased any Rampage comeback hopes when Danny O'Regan (4) blocked a shot and scored an empty net goal from his zone at 18:30.

Nathan Lieuwen (0-1) took the loss after allowing two goals on 16 shots. Armalis (2-0-1) earned his second win of the year by making 25 saves on 26 shots.

The San Jose Barracuda hit the road for five games starting Friday, November 11 at Texas and won't return to SAP Center until Friday, November 25 against Bakersfield. For Barracuda tickets visit SJBarracuda.com/tickets or by calling 408.999.5757.
