Barracuda Begin Five Game Road Trip With 3-0 Loss to Stars

Cedar Park, TX –the San Jose Barracuda (18-13-5-3, 44pts) presented by Barracuda Networks dropped their season high 5th straight game (0-3-2-0) with a  3-0 loss to the host Texas Stars (24-16-3-3, 52pts) in front of 4,175 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday evening.

Rookie goaltender Maxime Lagace made 35 saves for his 1st AHL shutout while Aaron Dell made 33 saves in the losing effort.  Curtis McKenzie scored twice and added an assist as the Stars picked up their first shutout win of the season and leap frogged past the Barracuda into second place in the Pacific Division.

The Texas Stars broke out to a 2-0 first period lead despite each team firing 12 shots on goal.  Curtis McKenzie (8th) sent a quick shot over the shoulder of Aaron Dell at 6:15 after a great entry into the zone by Brendan Ranford.  The Stars connected again just five seconds into their second power play as Brett Ritchie (10th) fired a one timer into the net at 18:35 to put the Barracuda down 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second period as Aaron Dell made 13 saves and rookie netminder Maxime Lagace added another nine stops as the Barracuda headed into the second intermission trailing 2-0 to the Stars.

Curtis McKenzie (9th) struck again on the power play at 8:27 with a rebound score past Aaron Dell to put the game away at 3-0.  Maxime Lagace made 14 more saves for his 1st AHL shutout for the Stars.

San Jose went 0-for-5 on the power play while Texas went 2-for-5…. Frazer McLaren (inj), Nikita Jevpalovs, Alex Gallant, Daniel Doremus, and Patrick McNally did not dress for the Barracuda…Raffi Torres played his 3rd game for the Barracuda on a conditioning assignment from the SJ Sharks…the Barracuda are in a stretch where they play 9 of 11 on the road… Trevor Parkes (4-3-7) and Bryan Lerg (2-5-7) each have five game point streaks come to an end… San Jose is now 0-1-0-0 on their five game road trip.
