Barracuda Bytes: The Dog Days of Summer

Barracuda Bytes 7/29

Jul 29, 2015

Happy Hump Day Barracuda fans!  Eric Lindquist (PR and radio voice of the Barracuda) checking in on this VERY HOT Wednesday. It won’t be for another month until the AHL schedule comes out and news around the league is rather slow this time of year, so I figured I would fill you in on some of the happenings here at the SAP Center with the Barracuda!

Circle your calendars… The Barracuda will host the Stockton Heat for our only home exhibition game on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30pm at Sharks Ice at San Jose. Ticket information will be made available at a later date. The Barracuda will travel to Bakersfield on October 3 for our second and final matchup before the Barracuda home opener on October 9.

Young and Parkes signed… Defenseman Gus Young and forward Trevor Parkes each signed AHL deals with the Barracuda earlier this month. Young was the Worcester Sharks un-sung hero last season as a rookie and led the team with a +14 rating from the blue-line. Glad to see “Younger” back in the organization. A National Champion with Yale – Gus is a solid defenseman that can chip in offensively and has a snarl to his game.

Parkes signed with Worcester at the end of last season and was a big reason why the Sharks played so well down the stretch. “Parksey” is a BIG body (6-2, 200lbs) that can get to the net and finish his checks. Trevor will enter his 5th professional season but is still only 24-years-old.

Glad to have both back in the fold this season with the Barracuda. Don’t forget that anyone signed by the San Jose Sharks on a two-way contract (NHL/AHL) is also eligible to play for the Barracuda!

Six Dates… The AHL allows each team to release six guaranteed home dates before the actual schedule comes out. Five of the six dates for the Barracuda will also serve as Sharks/Barracuda doubleheaders at the SAP Center (can’t wait for those!). Check out the six dates below with some exciting promotions attached to them.

  • Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 – Opening Night at SAP Center
  • Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 – Movember for Men’s Health Awareness (Sharks doubleheader)
  • Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 – Ugly Sweater Day (Sharks doubleheader)
  • Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 – Bobblehead giveaway (Sharks doubleheader)
  • Saturday, Feb 13, 2016 – Pink in the Rink (Sharks doubleheader)
  • Saturday, Mar. 26, 2016 – Beach Towel giveaway (Sharks doubleheader)

On the air?... The Barracuda hope to have a radio deal signed over the next few weeks for the upcoming season. Audio for all games (home and away) will be streamed online for free at SJBarracuda.com and a live video feed for all games will be provided (for a small fee) at www.AHLLive.com. We are also working on getting a handful of games televised live locally in the Bay Area – more info to following as the season approaches.

Website… Our marketing crew is working on updating and unveiling a new SJBarracuda.com. Make sure to keep checking back in the upcoming weeks to check out the new site!

Tickets… The Barracuda ticket staff have been working hard all summer selling full and half season tickets and are now offering group seats for our six guaranteed dates. Individual tickets will not go on sale until after our schedule is released in late August. Give our crew a call at 408-977-4747 for more ticket info.

Questions?... If you guys have any questions about the Barracuda, AHL, or anything else… Shoot me an email at barracudavoice@sjbarracuda.com and I will make sure to have you covered in the next Barracuda Bytes!

Until next time Barracuda Fans…. See Ya!
