BARRACUDA EARN POINT IN 3-2 SHOOTOUT LOSS AT GR

Mar 30, 2018

Grand Rapids, MI - The San Jose Barracuda (28-25-4-4) twice erased one-goal deficits on Friday at Van Andel Arena, but in a shootout the Grand Rapids Griffins (38-24-1-7) would earn the two points, extending its point streak to six-straight games.

After outshooting San Jose 19-to-six in the first, the Griffs needed just 16 seconds in the second period to claim the games first lead as Dylan Mcllrath (5) snapped a 30-game goalless drought by firing in a rebound after Dominic Turgeon's left-wing shot was steered away by Antoine Bibeau. The Barracuda would push back in the second, and even the score during four-on-four play as Jake Middleton (5) put a long-distance slapper inside the far right post as he entered the zone.

In the third, GR recaptured its lead when Colin Campbell found Ben Street (18) uncovered along the right side and Street slid the puck into the open net at 7:10. On the power play, the Barracuda again evened the score as Alex True (12) tipped a point shot from Nick DeSimone past Tom McCollum at the 13-minute mark.

After remaining deadlocked through the final seven minutes of regulation and the five-minute three-on-three overtime, the Griffins claimed the games two points in the shootout as Matt Puempel was the hero in the fourth round.
Bibeau (19-14-4) suffered the hard-luck loss after allowing two goals on 38 shots, while McCollum (17-13-3) earned the win after making 33 saves on 35 shots.
