BARRACUDA EARN POINT IN 5-4 OT LOSS AT ONTARIO

ONTARIO, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (26-23-4-3) erased a two-goal deficit, took a third-period lead, but in the end fell 5-4 in overtime to the Ontario Reign(32-20-4-2) on Sunday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
 
Philippe Maillet (16) opened up the scoring on Ontario's first shot of the game at 3:34 as he wrapped in a loose puck from behind the net. After Antoine Bibeaumade three separate point-blank saves to keep the score at just 1-0, Jonny Brodzinski (9) finished off a T.J. Hensick pass at 18:32 to give the Reign a 2-0 lead.
 
In the second, Alex True (11) cut Ontario's lead in half as he tipped a Nick DeSimone point shot past Scott Wedgewood just 10 seconds into San Jose's power play at 6:47. Julius Bergman (8) tied the game at 12:52 as he wired a high-slot shot inside the left post, but after the 'Cuda were popped for back-to-back minor penalties, Brodzinski (10) regained his teams lead with a top-shelf wrister from just inside the left circle. The Reign were called for their second face-off violation at 18:49 and the former LA Kings draft pick, Jake Middleton (3) pocked in a loose puck in the crease to tie the game at 3-3 at 19:32.
 
In the final frame, the Barracuda took its first lead when Brandon Mashinterconnected with DeSimone (6) on a shorthanded three-on-one at 7:35. The Reign would find the equalizer on the man advantage at 12:36 off the stick of Austin Wagner (8), and in overtime, Brett Sutter (12) backhanded the game-winner through Bibeau's five-hole at the 59-second mark of the extra session.
 
Bibeau (18-12-3) took the overtime loss after allowing five goals on 34 shots, while Wedwood (2-0-0) claimed the win after stopping 31-of-35 shots he faced.
