BARRACUDA EARN POINT, LOSE 3-2 TO TEXAS IN A SHOOTOUT

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS - Trailing by a goal in the final period, the San Jose Barracuda (3-4-0-1) evened the score and forced overtime, but in the end fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Texas Stars (5-3-0-1) on Saturday night at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
 
After a scoreless opening period, Filip Sandberg (3) wired a wrist-shot from the left wing past Mike McKenna just 15 seconds into the second period to give San Jose the 1-0 lead. At 8:25, Matt Mangene (3) snuck past San Jose's defense after a miscue by the Barracuda in the o-zone and Mangene beat Grosenick with a forehand-to-backhand move. Texas took its first lead at 18:58 as Roope Hintz (3) snapped a shot off the left post and in from in between the circles.
 
In the third, on its sixth power play, John McCarthy (1) lifted a close-range shot over McKenna's left shoulder to even the score at 2-2 at 6:42. After neither team could score in the remainder of regulation and overtime, Travis Morin netted the only goal in the shootout to lift Texas over San Jose, 3-2.
 
Grosenick (2-3) suffered the loss after allowing a pair of goals on 26 shots, while McKenna (4-2) earned the victory by making 26 saves on 28 shots.
