BARRACUDA EVEN SERIES WITH 5-1 WIN

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The San Jose Barracuda (1-1) potted five goals and rolled to a 5-1 win over the San Diego Gulls (1-1) at SAP Center on Saturday night, tying the second round series at 1-1.

After Timo Meier had gone coast-to-coast only to have his shot blocked in the high slot, Nick DeSimone (1) entered the attacking zone and blasted a slap shot past Jhonas Enroth to give San Jose the opening period lead at 4:31. After San Diego's Scott Sabourin had upended Troy Grosenick, resulting in a goaltender inference penalty, Ryan Carpenter (6) continued his red-hot postseason by lighting the lamp on the power play at 7:13 for his AHL-leading sixth goal of the playoffs.  

In the second, Buddy Robinson (4) extended San Jose's lead just a minute and ten seconds into the period. The 6-foot-5 forward lifted a loose puck in the low slot over Enroth's left pad as he was falling to the ice. At 3:43 of the second frame, Sam Carrick (2) cut the lead back down to two with a swiping forehand shot from atop the crease, but Adam Helewka (1) made it two-for-two on the power play as he poked a loose puck passed Enroth after Tim Heed's point shot was stopped down in front. 

San Jose sealed the victory just 40 seconds into the third as Carpenter feathered a cross-ice pass to Barclay Goodrow (2) on a two-on-one and Goodrow ripped a shot past Enroth to make it 5-1. 

Grosenick earned the win (4-3) by making 27 saves on 28 shots, while Enroth (4-3) took the loss after allowing five goals on 35 shots in 46 minutes and 46 seconds before being replaced by Dustin Tokarski (0-0) who finished the final 13 minutes and 14 seconds, stopping all seven shots.
