Barracuda Host Two Games This Weekend at the SAP Center

Look Back:
The San Jose Barracuda (3-3-0-1, 7pts, .500%) presented by Barracuda Networks chomped two out of a possible two points last week (1-0-0-0) in one game last week.  San Jose picked up their first win on home ice at the SAP Center on Sunday with an exciting 4-2 win over the visiting Ontario Reign (AHL affiliate of the LA Kings).

The Barracuda are in the middle of a stretch where they have played only one game in 13 days but host two games at the SAP Center this weekend. Four players recorded their first goals of the season last week as John McCarthy, Mirco Mueller, Jeremy Langlois, and Nikolay Goldobin all found the back of the net on Sunday.  Aaron Dell picked up his third win of the season with 32 saves in net as the Barracuda evened their season record back to .500.

Barracuda captain Bryan Lerg has been on recall with the SJ Sharks as the Barracuda have already had seven different players receive NHL recalls this season (Bryan Lerg, Mirco Mueller, Dylan DeMelo, Nikolay Goldobin, Micheal Haley, John McCarthy, and Karl Stollery).

The San Jose Barracuda player of the week nominee is veteran forward John McCarthy.  The 29-year-old from Andover, MA recorded two points (1-1-2), +1, and three shots in one game with the Barracuda last week.

The San Jose Barracuda host a teddy bear toss presented by Kaiser Permanente on Saturday, November 7 at 1:15pm vs. the San Diego Gulls (AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks). The teddy bear toss presented by Kaiser Permanente encourages fans to bring a new stuffed animal to the game to throw onto the ice following the Barracuda’s first goal of the afternoon. The tossed stuffed animals will then be donated to local charities: Doors open at 12:30pm as the San Jose Barracuda host the San Diego Gulls (AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks) at 1:15pm.  November 7 marks the first of 13 San Jose Barracuda and San Jose Sharks doubleheaders at the SAP Center this season.  The San Jose Sharks host the Anaheim Ducks at 7:30pm. Fans must have a separate ticket for both games. San Jose Barracuda season and group ticket packages are available by calling the Barracuda directly at 408-977-4747. MILESTONE ALERT:
Head Coach Roy Sommer surpassed Frank Mathers (1256 games coached) for the most games coached in AHL history on March 26, 2014 in the Sharks 5-3 win in Lewiston, ME over the Portland Pirates.  Coach Sommer has coached 1351 AHL games – all with the SJ Sharks AHL affiliates. In total, Coach Sommer has been a head coach in 1,685 games in the AHL and ECHL.  Coach Sommer picked up his 600th career AHL win in a 4-3 victory in Lehigh Valley on Feb 4, 2015 and surpassed Frank Mathers (610 wins) for 2nd all-time in AHL history on March 27 in Springfield with his 611th win!  Roy needs 17 wins to tie Fred “Bun Cook” (637 wins) for the most wins in AHL history!

The San Jose Barracuda (3-3-0-1, 7pts) presented by Barracuda Networks got their first home win in franchise history with a thrilling 4-2 victory over the visiting Ontario Reign (5-1-2-0, 12pts) in front of 4,039 fans at the SAP Center on Sunday afternoon. Aaron Dell got his third win of the season with 32 saves on 34 shots.  John McCarthy (1-1-2), Mirco Mueller (1-0-1), Jeremy Langlois (1-0-1) and Nikolay Goldobin (1-1-2) all scored for the Barracuda to hand Ontario their first regulation loss of the season.  Peter Budaj made 25 saves in the losing effort while Michael Mersch and Ryan Horvat scored for the Reign as they were playing their 3rd game in three days.

*1257 GAMES…..With the 5-3 win in Lewiston, ME vs. the Pirates on March 26, 2014, head coach Roy Sommer surpassed Frank Mathers (1,256 games) for the most games coached in the AHL.

*1,600 GAMES… With the 3-0 loss vs. the Norfolk Admirals on April 12, 2014, head coach Roy Sommer coached in his 1,600th professional game.

*Suspensions…San Jose Barracuda defenseman Karl Stollery was suspended for one (1) game as a consequence of an elbowing incident in a game vs. San Diego on Oct. 21. Stollery was suspended under the provisions of AHL Rule 28.1 (supplementary discipline). Karl missed San Jose’s game on Oct. 23 vs. San Diego.

*CHL Championship… Aaron Dell won the Central Hockey League Championship with  the Allen Americans in 2013.

*Oldest/Youngest… Bryan Lerg is the oldest player on the Barracuda roster (born Jan 20, 1986) while Julius Bergman is the youngest (born Nov 2, 1995).

*High scorer in the Q… rookie Nikita Jevpalovs recorded 100 points (49-51-100) in 64 games for Blainville-Boisbriand in the QMJHL last season. The 21-year-old from Riga, Latvia has three points (1-2-3) in seven games for the Barracuda.

*The Sherriff… Frazer McLaren re-signed in the off-season with the SJ Sharks organization after spending the last 2+ seasons in the Toronto organization. McLaren holds the Worcester Sharks franchise record with 577 penalty minutes and has seven penalty minutes in five games for the Barracuda.

*J-Mac… John McCarthy led the Worcester Sharks in points (151) and goals (63) and was tied in the franchise lead in games played (277).  McCarthy also served as the Worcester Sharks captain in 2012-13 and was the Worcester Sharks MVP in 2011-12. McCarthy is (1-1-2) in six games with the Barracuda and  (0-0-0) in one game with the SJ Sharks.
