BARRACUDA RING IN NEW YEAR WITH 4-1 WIN

Dec 31, 2016

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (15-7-1-3) scored three second-period goals and avenged its loss the night before by beating the Bakersfield Condors (11-12-4-1), 4-1, at SAP Center. The win moved San Jose into second place in the Pacific for the first time this season.

The Barracuda and Condors skated out to a scoreless first, but San Jose's Danny O'Regan (9) made it 1-0 Barracuda at 8:34 of the second on the power play as he whacked a puck out of mid-air after his initial shot hit the right post. San Jose extended its lead on the penalty kill as Ryan Carpenter moved his point streak to five games with a perfect pass to Joakim Ryan (4) who tipped the puck over the right pad of Laurent Brossoit at 11:12 as he streaked between the circles. Marcus Sorensen (7) capped off San Jose's three-goal period as he blazed down the left wing and fired a shot far side top shelf at 18:05.

In the final frame, Carpenter (6) snuck behind the Bakersfield defense on the penalty kill and collected a pass from Barclay Goodrow, as Carpenter went to make a deke the puck rolled off his stick, but he still managed to sneak it through Brossoit's five-hole to make it 4-0 at 3:54. Anton Lander negated Troy Grosenick's shutout bid at 8:51 with a short side snap shot just under the crossbar, but San Jose held on tight for their ninth home win of the year.

Grosenick (8-5-2) was sensational in the victory, making glove save after glove save and allowed just one goal on 35 shots. Brossoit (7-8-3) suffered the loss after giving up four goals on 28 shots.

Three Stars:
1.     Joakim Ryan (SJ: 1+2=3)
2.     Troy Grosenick (SJ: 34 saves)
3.     Ryan Carpenter (SJ: 1+1=2)
