BARRACUDA SHUTOUT GULLS IN COMPLETE EFFORT

Dec 10, 2016

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose Barracuda (9-6-0-3) turned in one of their most complete efforts of the season Saturday afternoon at SAP Center and earned a 3-0 win over the San Diego Gulls (11-7-1-0).

Troy Grosenick (4-4-1) faced just 15 shots but was perfect in the victory, earning his third shutout of the season and seventh of his professional career.

After giving up 17 shots and three goals on Thursday in the first period against the Stockton Heat, the Barracuda responded in a big way on Saturday afternoon holding the Gulls to just two shots, tying a franchise low. On the other end, the Barracuda put ten shots on net but neither team could find pay dirt in the opening frame.

In the second, Tim Heed (6) was able to give San Jose the lead on a missile from the point at 16:12.

The Barracuda got the insurance it needed in the third after Barclay Goodrow was tripped on a breakaway after leaving the penalty box. Goodrow (8) was awarded a penalty shot and took advantage by beating Dustin Tokarski through the five-hole at 13:43. San Jose sealed the victory as Danny O'Regan feathered a pass to John McCarthy (4) who ripped a shot just inside the right post from the left side on the penalty kill at 14:58, San Jose's second shorthanded tally of the year.

The Barracuda were a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill Saturday in the win.

Tokarski (9-4-0) suffered the loss by allowing three goals on 34 shots.
