Mar 8, 2018

SAN JOSE - The San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda), proud American Hockey League (@TheAHL) affiliate of the San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks), and General Manager Joe Will announced today that the club has signed Defenseman Zach Frye (Fry) (@Fryzie21) to an AHL contract. Frye will join the team immediately. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Zach's a two-way, physical defenseman who's been a go-to guy for Alaska-Fairbanks," said Will. "He had a great development camp, so we followed his progress, and he followed that up with a strong final season of college hockey. He's a guy that coaches can trust, and we're really excited for him to join the organization."

The native of Spokane, Washington, Frye, 23, participated in the Sharks Development Camp this past summer and just completed his senior season at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he paced the Nanooks in points (34), goals (11), assists (23), and penalty minutes (100), while skating in 35 games. Frye has served as an Alternate Captain over his last three seasons at Alaska-Fairbanks.

Before his college career, the six-foot-one, 206-pound blueliner spent parts of four years with the USHL's Lincoln Stars where he led the league in penalty minutes in 2013-14 (214).
