SAN JOSE - The San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda), proud American Hockey League (@TheAHL) affiliate of the San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks), and General Manager Joe Will announced today that the club has signed Forward Evan Weinger (WINE-ger) (@EvanWeinger) to an AHL contract from the Brandon Wheat Kings (@bdnwheatkings) of the WHL (@TheWHL). Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Evan has high-end speed and can play in all situations," said Doug Wilson Jr., Director of Hockey Operations for the San Jose Sharks. "He plays on the inside and has a quick release from both sides of the ice. We've been following him for a while now, and we're excited for him to join the organization."

The native of El Segundo, California, Weinger, 20, participated in the Los Angeles Kings Development Camp this past summer and played for the LA Jr. Kings under-16 and under-18 programs before moving onto to the Western Hockey League in 2014.

So far this season, Weinger has recorded 50 points (26 goals, 24 assists), 23 penalty minutes, and a plus-three rating in 55 games with Brandon. In addition, the winger skated in one game with the Portland Winterhawks (WHL).
Over his four-year junior career, Weinger has appeared in 242 WHL games with Brandon and Portland, totaling 139 points (63 goals, 76 assists), 120 penalty minutes, and a plus-11 rating. In 30 playoff games, he has posted 10 points (three goals, seven assists), 10 penalty minutes, and a minus-four rating.

The six-foot, 195-pound winger was teammates with Sharks draft selection Joachim Blichfeld in Portland in 2016-17.
