BARRACUDA SINK MONSTERS WITH OT BUZZER BEATER

Oct 22, 2017

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The San Jose Barracuda (3-3) and Cleveland Monsters (2-2-1) couldn't find the back of the net on Sunday at Quicken Loans Arena until 64 minutes and 58 seconds into the game. In overtime, Adam Helewka found Michael Brodzinski (1) trailing the rush as he entered the offensive zone and Brodzinski sniped home the buzzer-beating overtime winner at the 1.1 mark through Matiss Kivlenieks five-hole. It was Brodzinski's first AHL goal of his career in 20 career games.

In the first, San Jose was outshot badly 12-to-4 but weathered Cleveland's early onslaught. After the first, the Barracuda would outshoot the Monsters 18-to-17 in the final 44 minutes and 58 seconds of play.

Each team failed to score on four power play tries on the night, despite Cleveland hitting a pair of posts in the second, and in the third each goaltender was forced to make highlight-reel saves to keep their club in the game.

In the end, Antoine Bibeau made 28 saves for San Jose to earn his first win in teal and his 11th pro shutout. His counterpart, Kivlenieks was equally impressive stopping 21-of-22 shots he faced.
