WINNIPEG, MB - The San Jose Barracuda (15-11-0-2) used three different goal scorers, and 24 saves from Troy Grosenick to upend the Manitoba Moose (23-6-1-2), 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Bell MTS Place. The win marks San Jose's first three-game winning streak of the season, and snapped Manitoba's AHL-long and franchise-record 16-game point streak and six-game winning streak.
Filip Sandberg (6) gave San Jose the early lead just a minute and 10 seconds into the first after Michael Hutchinson misplayed the puck behind his net. Grosenick held his clubs lead through 20 minutes after denying Nic Petan on a penalty shot at 19:18.
In the second, Mike Sgarbossa (11) tied the game by dragging a rebound off Grosenick's left pad before backhanding the puck into the open net at 7:38. 23 seconds later, Brandon Bollig (7) received a perfect pass from Michael Brodzinski after the blueliner slipped a zone entry check and Bollig would beat Hutchinson with a forehand-to-backhand move.
In the third, on the Moose's fifth power play, Sami Niku (4) ripped a shot off the far post and in from atop the right circle to tie the game at 2-2 at 5:06. San Jose would capture its third lead when Manuel Wiederer (3) swiped home a rebound after a blast from Cavan Fitzgerald on an offensive rush during a four-on-four sequence at 14:54. The goal would result in the winner after San Jose tightened up defensively in the last five minutes.
Grosenick earned the win (5-4-2) while Hutchinson suffered his first loss since October 13 after allowing three goals on 26 shots.
The Barracuda continue their four-game road trip on Sunday, December 31. San Jose's next home game is scheduled for January 9 against the San Antonio Rampage (Colorado Avalanche). For tickets visit SJBarracuda.com/tickets.
