BARRACUDA STUNNED IN OT BY TUCSON, 4-3

Apr 13, 2017

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The San Jose Barracuda (43-16-3-5) allowed two unanswered goals in the third period before falling 4-3 in overtime against the Tucson Roadrunners (28-31-8-0) on Thursday night at SAP Center.

Tucson broke the first-period deadlock as Connor Garland found Tyler Gaudet (5) uncovered below the left circle and Gaudet beat Troy Grosenick with a forehand-to-backhand finish through the five-hole at 8:52. The Barracuda tied the score on its first power play at 10:44. Joakim Ryan received a drop pass off the left wall, fired the puck from the left point, and John McCarthy (19) tipped the shot past Adin Hill.

In the second, San Jose took its first lead as Buddy Robinson (16) sniped a shot short side top shelf on a two-on-one at 4:30.

Danny O'Regan (23) extended San Jose's lead to 3-1 at 13:23 on the power play, but Jeremy Morin (14) snuck a puck short side past Grosenick at 16:01 to cut the lead back down to one. With less than a minute left in regulation, Jamie McBain (8) found the back of the net from the point with Tucson's goalie pulled to force overtime. In the extra session, Chris Mueller (19) powered his way around Barracuda defenseman Tim Heed as he streaked down the left wing and pile drove the puck into the net at the 50-second mark of OT. The goal was initially called off, but after a conference amongst the officials the ruling was reversed and the Roadrunners secured the 4-3 win.

Grosenick (30-11-3) suffered the loss after allowing four goals on 25 shots, while Hill (16-14-6) collected his second win in a row after making 24 saves on 27 shots.
