SAN DIEGO, CA –The San Jose Barracuda (5-6-0-1, 11pts) presented by Barracuda Networks defeated the host San Diego Gulls (9-3-0-1, 19pts) by the score of 4-3 in regulation in front of 11,396 fans at the Valley View Casino Center on Saturday evening.  The Barracuda’s season long seven game road trip continues in Bakersfield on Wednesday at 10:30am vs. the Condors.

Defenseman Mark Cundari (1st) sent a laser into the net on the power play from 50 feet at 1:31 of the second period to give San Jose a 3-0 lead.  But tough guy Brian McGrattan (2nd) got the score right back at 2:05 after his shot down the right wing on the rush beat Troy Grosenick on the blocker side.  Greger Hanson (1st) gave the Barracuda a 4-1 advantage after he slipped a shot from 25 feet through the pads of Matt Hackett at 11:08 assisted by John McCarthy.  San Jose outshot San Diego 13-6 in the second period and took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.

The Gulls poured the pressure on in the third period as they fired 21 shots and scored twice in the final six minutes of the third period to cut the Barracuda lead to 4-3.  Nic Kerdiles (3rd) scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 14:42 and Chris Mueller (3rd) fired home a rebound with 2.1 seconds left but it was too little too late for San Diego as Troy Grosenick stood tall and finished with 32 saves in net.
