BARRACUDA TAKE 2-1 SERIES LEAD WITH 4-3 OT WINMay 10, 2017
SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The San Jose Barracuda (2-1) tied the score with a minute and one second left in regulation before taking game three in overtime, 4-3, versus the San Diego Gulls (1-2) at Valley View Casino Center on Wednesday night.
It took 16 minutes and 32 seconds in the first period before either team scored but rookie forward Max Jones (1) broke the deadlock by collecting a loose rebound atop the crease before backhanding the puck past a sprawled out Troy Grosenick to give the Gulls the opening-period lead. Less than a minute later, Kevin Labanc (2) evened the score at 17:25 as he blasted a rebound past Jhonas Enroth who was stuck out of position.
In the second, Sam Carrick (3) entered the offensive zone uncovered, scooped up a loose puck after Anton Laganiere drew two Barracuda, and ripped a shot past Grosenick at 7:34 to give the Gulls back their lead, 2-1.
In the third, down by a goal, Colin Blackwell (1) bounced a puck off a skate from below the goal line and passed Enroth to tie the score at 2-2. The Gulls regained the lead at 16:40, with a goal from Spencer Abbott (1), but Danny O'Regan tied the game with San Jose's net pulled at 18:59 to force overtime.
In overtime, Timo Meier (3) got beyond the defense with a forehand-to-backhand move before chipping a shot off the left post and in for the game-winner at 17:40.
