BARRACUDA UPEND HEAT IN OVERTIME, 2-1

Apr 9, 2017

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The San Jose Barracuda (43-15-2-5) put a franchise high 49 shots on net, but overtime was needed to top the Stockton Heat (33-26-4-2), 2-1, at SAP Center on Sunday night. The win clinched the Western Conference regular title (Bud Poile Trophy) for San Jose and guaranteed home ice throughout the first three rounds of the playoffs.

At 19:08 of the first, Danny O'Regan (22) broke the deadlock on a five-on-three power play as he ripped a shot from below the left circle past David Rittich after a feed from Tim Heed.

After a scoreless second period in which San Jose outshot Stockton 16-to-7, Mike Angelidis (7) cashed in on the power play at 6:11 and tied the score in the final period. In overtime, Troy Grosenick made a sensational save to deny a Stockton victory, and  Barclay Goodrow (25) became the hero when he wristed a short-side shot past Rittich at 2:12 of OT.

Grosenick earned the win (30-9-3) after making 21 saves on 23 shots, while Rittich (14-11-3) suffered the hard-luck loss after allowing two goals on 49 shots.
