Barracuda vs. Stockton Heat Preview

Today:
The San Jose Barracuda and the Stockton Heat (AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames) meet for the 4th of 12 meetings this season, the 2nd of six meetings at the SAP Center.  The Barracuda are 2-0-0-1 vs. the Heat this season and are 2-0-0-1 in two career matchups. San Jose has dropped three straight games (0-1-2-0) but is 6-3-2-2 in their last 13 games overall.  The Heat have won three of their last five games (3-2-0-0) as both teams will play their final game before the AHL holiday break which begins on Monday.  Former SJ Sharks forward Freddie Hamilton leads the Heat with 14 points (6-8-14) in 22 games this season.

The San Jose Barracuda (9-9-2-3, 23pts) presented by Barracuda Networks dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the host San Diego Gulls (13-10-0-1, 27pts) in front of 9,421 fans at the Valley View Casino Arena on Friday evening.  Karl Stollery and Nikolay Goldobin scored for the Barracuda while Troy Grosenick made 28 saves in net in the overtime loss as San Jose dropped their third straight game (0-1-2-0).  Stefan Noesen scored twice for the Gulls, including the game winner in overtime as Anton Khudobin made 30 saves in his first AHL start of the season as San Diego won their 8th home game of the season.

Oliver Kylington scored the go-ahead goal with 12:34 left in regulation to send the Stockton Heat to a 3-2 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in the Golden State Hockey Rush outdoor game at Raley Field on Saturday evening. It was the eighth outdoor game in AHL history, and the seventh to be decided by a single goal. Derek Grant and Drew Shore also scored for the Heat, and Joni Ortio stopped 33 of 35 shots in the win. Ben Scrivens made 35 saves for Bakersfield, becoming the first goaltender ever to start two AHL outdoor games in his career. Scrivens was the winning goalie in Toronto's 7-2 win at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton in 2012. Game time temperature was 52 degrees and skies were partly cloudy throughout the contest, which had been postponed from Friday night because of rain.

*Recent transactions… Barclay Goodrow is expected to be in the lineup today for the Barracuda, as he was loaned from the SJ Sharks last night.
