Barracuda vs. Stockton Heat Preview

Tonight:
The San Jose Barracuda and the Stockton Heat (AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames) meet for the 9th of 12 meetings this season, the 5th of six meetings at the SAP Center.  The Barracuda are 6-0-1-1 vs. the Heat this season and are 6-0-1-1 in eight career matchups. San Jose returns home after a four game road trip (2-1-1-0) and will play nine of 11 games in the month of March at SAP Center.  The Heat just finished a four game home stand with a 3-1-0-0 record and will open a quick three game road trip beginning tonight in San Jose.  The Barracuda have outscored the Heat 35-23 this season and will look for points in nine straight games vs. the Heat this season.

In case you missed it…
The Barracuda fell 5-2 in San Diego on Saturday night to end a four game road trip with a 2-1-1-0 record.  John McCarthy (10th) and Trevor Parkes (13th) scored for San Jose while Troy Grosenick made 21 saves in the loss.

The Heat wrapped up a four game home stand with a 3-2 win over the San Antonio Rampage on Sunday.  Freddie Hamilton, Turner Elson, and Bill Arnold scored for the Heat while Kevin Poulin made 36 saves for the win.

*Recent transactions…  San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced Feb 27 that the club acquired goaltender James Reimer (RIGH-muhr) and forward Jeremy Morin (moh-REHN) from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Alex Stalock, forward Ben Smith and a conditional 2018 fourth round draft selection. Morin, 24, was currently playing with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, where in 41 games between Toronto and Rockford, he has scored 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists), along with 32 penalty minutes and a +7 rating. In 82 NHL games with Chicago and Columbus, Morin has posted 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) along with 69 penalty minutes and a +8 rating. He was originally selected by Atlanta in the second round (45th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft and played under Sharks Assistant Coach Steve Spott in Kitchener (OHL).  Morin is expected to make his Barracuda debut tonight.

*New goalie… with Aaron Dell receiving his 1st NHL recall on Feb 27, the Barracuda have recalled Joel Rumpel from the Allen Americans. Joel was just named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 22-28. The 24-year-old went 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 2.30 goals-against average and a save percentage of .931 in three appearances against Wichita last week. Rumpel stopped all 48 shots he faced in a 1-0 win at Wichita on Friday, made 17 saves in a 7-4 victory on Saturday and stopped 29 shots in a 4-3 shootout win on Sunday. A native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Rumpel has appeared in 37 games with the Americans this season posting a record of 21-10-4 with two shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .908. He made his pro debut with Allen at the end of last season going 3-0-1 in four games with a 1.68 goals-against average and a save percentage of .910. Under a National Hockey League contract with the San Jose Sharks, Rumpel played collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin where he posted a 53-50-11 record with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage over four seasons and in 2013-14 was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.

*DeMelo…Dylan DeMelo was loaned to the Barracuda from the Sharks on Feb 29.  DeMelo is not expected in the lineup tonight but did skate with the Barracuda this morning.
