Weekly rewind…

After dropping the season opener at Stockton, 3-2, the San Jose Barracuda responded in a big way last Saturday with a 5-4 overtime victory over their Southern California rival the Ontario Reign. San Jose’s offensive attack was a balanced machine as five different players scored and six players had at least two points. Offseason free agent addition Marcus Sorenson scored his first American Hockey League goal while Kevin Lebanc scored his first professional goal for the ‘Cuda. Another offseason free agent signing, Tim Heed, had three assists and Nikolay Goldobin had a goal and two helpers. Mantas Armalis did just enough to earn his first AHL win in his first AHL start, stopping 11 of 15 shots.

A look ahead…

After beginning the season on the road with a pair of games, the Barracuda will play their next four games at SAP Center at San Jose. The ‘Cuda begin the home stand with games this Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday (1:15 p.m.) against Bakersfield (Edmonton Oilers). In 2015-16, San Jose went 5-6-0-1 against the Condors and 2-4-0-0 at home. Bakersfield and San Jose will play a total of 12 times this season, with six of them being played at home.

Broadcaster takes…

Call me captain obvious, but Danny O’Regan is legit. The Boston University product has goals in his first two AHL games, and it’s evident early that the first year pro has dynamic speed and natural offensive instincts. Aside from scoring, The San Jose Sharks 5th round selection (#138 overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft does all the little things well too. He’ll win draws, blocks shots and despite his not so intimidating frame (5-10/180) he has a willingness to get in the gritty areas. O’Regan has two goals, an assist, plus-1 rating and four shots on net through two games.
