BARRACUDA WEEKLY

BARRACUDA WEEKLY

Dec 18, 2018

The Barracuda earned a point on Saturday in San Diego, before downing the Ontario on Sunday, 5-2, to extend their point streak to 10. The longest such streak since San Jose had a 15 gamer in 2016-17.

With Sunday’s win, the Barracuda sit back atop the AHL in winning percentage (16-3-1-3 = .738%) and hold the Western Conference’s best road winning percentage (8-2-1-2 = .731%). San Jose’s +33 goal differential is the best in the AHL their 52 goals against is 16 less than their closest Pacific Division competitor, Bakersfield (68 GA).

The Barracuda scored in each game over the weekend on the power play and now have power play goals in a season long three games. In addition to the teams recent man-advantage success, the penalty kill continues to get it done, killing off 15 of their last 16 and rank fifth in the AHL on the kill (86.0%).

Dylan Gambrell has points in four straight games, goals in three straight and points in seven of eight (3g, 4a). Francis Perron has points in eight of 10, including three multi-point efforts (5g, 7a) during that stretch. Alex True has 13 points over his last 10 games (8g, 5a), including six goals over his last six games. True recorded the first four-point game (1g, 3a) of his career on Sunday and the first four point night this season for the Barracuda from an individual player. Kyle Wood has points in three straight and in five of his last six games (1g, 6a). Wood ranks first on the Barracuda with 15 assists. Thomas Gregoire has assists in four-straight games this season after earning an assist on Sunday in his first game since November 18.

San Jose netminders Antoine Bibeau and Josef Korenar have combined for the AHL’s best goals-against average (2.09) and best save percentage (.927) thus far this season. Korenar, a 20-year-old rookie, is first in the AHL in goals-against average (1.99), second in save percentage (.933) and T-third in wins (10), despite appearing in just 12 games. In addition, Korenar is T-third in shutouts (2). Bibeau, the CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month in October, ranks third in the AHL in goals-against (2.22) average and save percentage (.924).
