BARRACUDA WRAP UP HOME STAND WITH 7-1 WIN

Jan 16, 2017

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (19-9-1-3) scored three goals in the both the first and third period of Monday's game against the Bakersfield Condors (14-14-4-1) and cruised to a 7-1 win at SAP Center in the final game of a seven-game home stand.

Mantas Armalis (10-2-2) earned his third-straight win by making 22 saves on 23 shots.

In the first, the Barracuda put a franchise-high 22 shots on net and found the net three times in the opening frame. Nikita Jevpalovs (6) made it goals in three straight games as he streaked down the right wing and went bar down at 6:08. After Nikolay Goldobin had forced a turnover in the offensive zone, Adam Helewka (9) went forehand-to-backhand and snuck the puck through the five-hole of Nick Ellis at 13:55. With less than a minute left in the period, Ryan Carpenter (8) ripped a shot from the right wing just inside the right post at 19:41. Just 19 seconds later, off the draw, former fourth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Jesse Puljujarvi (1), fired a puck right off the draw and over the right pad of Armalis with just .02 seconds left in the first to make it 3-1.

The Condors settled into the second period and outshot San Jose 9-to-7, but it was San Jose's Marcus Sorensen (10) who was able to score the lone goal of the period. Jon Martin collected the puck from Alex Schoenborn just inside the Bakersfield zone and slid a backhand pass to Sorensen who swiped the puck under Ellis's right pad at 14:59 to make it 4-1.

Just 32 seconds into the third, Tim Heed threw a pass to Carpenter who then faked the shot and slipped the puck back door to Barclay Goodrow who banged in his team-leading 12th of the year to make it 5-1. Sorensen potted his second of the game when Rourke Chartier's shot deflected off Mikael Tam's skate and directly to Sorensen who put it into the open net down the left wing at 4:11. John McCathy (6) completed the seven-goal game after he got around a Condor' defender in the high slot and then went forehand-to-backhand around Ellis's left pad at 16:30.

Ellis (5-6-2) suffered the loss after allowing seven goals on 36 shots.
