Bergman Scores In Final Minute As Barracuda Grab Thrilling 5-4 Home Victory Over Stars

SAN JOSE, CA –The San Jose Barracuda (7-7-0-3, 17pts) presented by Barracuda Networks kicked off their five game home stand with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the visiting Texas Stars (11-8-0-1, 23pts) in front of 4,032 fans at the SAP Center on Saturday afternoon. The Barracuda are back in action tomorrow Sunday, November 29th at 3:00pm in back to back home games vs. the Texas Stars at the SAP Center.

The Barracuda exploded for four goals in the second period as Nikolay Goldobin scored twice, Joakim Ryan netted his 1st pro goal, and Barclay Goodrow netted his 4th of the season with just 10 seconds remaining in the second frame. 

After Texas tied the score late, rookie Julius Bergman scored his first pro goal at 19:12 of the third period to give San Jose the 5-4 win.  Troy Grosenick picked up his 4th win of the season with 26 saves as the Barracuda came back from a pair of two goal deficits for the victory.

The Barracuda and Stars exchanged multiple scoring opportunities during a fast pace first period.  The Stars were the first to light the lamp at 12:36.  Matej Stransky (5th) finished off a 2-on-0 effort by sliding the puck through Troy Grosenick’s legs as he slid to his left in the save attempt. 

Stars goalie Maxime Lagace stopped all 10 shots faced.  Shots were 10-9 in favor of the Barracuda through the first period.

Texas opened up an exciting multi-goal second period scoring five minutes in.  Devin Shore (14th) received a pass from the right of the net into the slot and put away the one timer to extend his goal scoring streak to a franchise best six straight games.

San Jose cut the lead in half at 9:38 from Joakim Ryan’s (1st) shot from the right circle that beat the Stars goalie Lagace, for his first professional goal. 

Devin Shore (15th) answered by scoring a power play goal, his second of the game, at 12:02 to give the Stars a 3-1 lead. 

After Troy Grosenick stopped Brendan Ranford on a breakaway, Nikolay Goldobin (3rd) took matters into his own hands by capitalizing at 14:10 on a far post shot from the right circle.  Two and a half minutes later Goldobin (5th) lit the lamp a second time on a power play goal wraparound to tie the game up at three a piece. 

San Jose took the lead with 10 seconds left in the period after Barclay Goodrow (4th) slammed home a one timer after receiving a beautiful pass on the back door from Petter Emanuelsson.  Shots were 12 to 10 in favor of the Barracuda in the second period as San Jose led 4-3 after 40 minutes.

Both team’s intensity and speed increased during a thrilling 3rd period.  Barracuda forward Barclay Goodrow (1 FM) and Stephen Johns (2 FM) dropped the gloves at 1:24 after Johns dished out a high hit on Mike Aviani.  The Stars were given three consecutive penalties throughout the period but the Barracuda were unable to capitalize. 

Stars defenseman Esa Lindell (6th) scored with 1:47 left on the clock to tie the game up 4-4 to give them life.  Exactly one minute later, rookie Julius Bergman (1st) scored the game-winning goal on a slap shot from the point with 48 seconds remaining in the game for his first professional goal. 

Shots were 11 to 11 in the 3rd period as San Jose grabbed two points in the 5-4 home victory.

Frazer McLaren, Daniel Doremus, and Alex Gallant (injured) did not dress for the Barracuda…Micheal Haley, Dylan Demelo, and Melker Karlsson are on recall with the SJ Sharks… Karl Stollery and John McCarthy wore the alternate captain “A’s” on their jerseys with Bryan Lerg sporting the “C”…Troy Grosenick is 4-0-1 in his last five starts… Nikolay Goldobin (3-1-4) has a three game point streak… John McCarthy, Ryan Carpenter, and Nikita Jevpalovs each recorded two assists… Barclay Goodrow was an assist away from the Gordie Howe hat trick… Gus Young picked up his first point of the season with an assist.
