BROADCAST BLOG (AUG. 17, 2017)

Aug 17, 2017

Hey Barracuda fans! Nick Nollenberger here. It’s another week, which means it’s time for another blog. Can you believe we’re already passed the halfway point of August? Hockey will be back on September 9th when the Sharks host a rookie tournament at Solor4America Ice and SAP Center with the Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, and Colorado Avalanche, so if you’re getting a little impatient, don’t you worry we’re down to the final stretch.

I know I just talked about how close it is, but hockey’s not back just yet so I’ll continue to update you on my offseason activities (Sorry, it is my blog after all). Next weekend I’ll be throwing out the first pitch at the San Jose Giants game for Barracuda Night on August 25th. It’s kind of a bucket list thing for me even though the chances I skip or sail the ball to the plate are pretty high. I’m a bit nervous about next Friday, but I may be even more nervous for this Saturday. Our Marketing and Community Relations Coordinator, Joey Goldstein, entered both himself and me into a Taco Eating Contest at the Silicon Valley Music and Taco Festival, which will take place at St. James Park at 2 p.m. this Saturday… With Joey Chestnut. Yes the JOEY CHESTNUT!!! Most well known for eating hot dogs, Chestnut holds the world record for Tacos eaten in eight minutes, 126. Now obviously there’s not a chance in the world I’d get close to that number, nor would I want to deal with that discomfort, but my goal is to not finish in last place. Chestnut's numbers slipped a bit last year, he ONLY ate "68".  The last place finisher ate eight tacos, so the goal isn’t too unobtainable.

The only semi-eating challenge I’ve ever attempted was a spicy wing challenge, and I ate two before tapping out due to facial swelling and drooling from the peppers in the sauce. Not necessarily the most impressive resume in this field. Wish me luck because I'm going need it.
