Afternoon Matchup: On Saturday, the Barracuda continue its season-long six game home stand when they welcome in the Manitoba Moose for game one of the two-game weekend set. San Jose is 2-2 on home ice this season, and have now won back-to-back games at SAP Center. The Barracuda are 4-0 against the Moose all-time with all four games coming a year ago, and are 12-6-1 all-time against the Central Division.
Home Body: On Saturday, the Barracuda continue their season-long six-game home stand. Seven of San Jose’s nine games in November will be played on home ice with visits from Texas, Manitoba, Ontario, San Antonio, and San Diego. The Barracuda are 2-2 this season at the Tank after boasting the Leagues best home-ice winning percentage a year ago (24-6-2-2= .765).
Big Impact: Five players from the Barracuda’s playoff team a year ago are currently up with the San Jose Sharks (Joakim Ryan, Tim Heed, Barclay Goodrow, Timo Meier, and Ryan Carpenter). Among Sharks defenseman, Tim Heed who was an AHL Second Team All-Star a year ago is first in goals (2), T-first in points (7), and T-first in power-play goals (1).
Welcome Back, Buddy: Former Barracuda forward Buddy Robinson returns to the Bay Area for the first time since signing with the Winnipeg Jets as a free agent this offseason. Robinson was acquired by the Sharks in a mid-season trade with the Ottawa Senators last winter and appeared in 33 games with the ‘Cuda totaling 19 points (10 goals, nine assists). Robinson also skated in 15 Calder Cup playoff games accumulating nine points (four goals, five assists). So far with the Moose, Robinson ranks third on the team in points (11), and goals (5).
SCOREnson: On Sunday, Marcus Sorensen exploded for three goals in San Jose’s 6-1 win over Texas. The hat-trick was Sorensen’s first of his pro career and the fifth in Barracuda history. Sorensen had not scored in his previous nine games before Sunday. Sorensen ranks second on the Barracuda in points (four goals, five assists).
Straight To The Banc: In his Barracuda debut on Sunday, Kevin Labanc collected a career-high three assists in San Jose’s victory over the Stars including helpers on two of Marcus Sorensen’s three goals. Labanc appeared in 13 games with the Sharks to begin the season totaling seven points (three goals, fours assists).
Powering Up: The Barracuda scored a season-high three power play goals on Sunday and now have power play goals in their last three games (5/17=29%). San Jose ranks 14th in the league on the man advantage (8/47=17%) and first on the power play at home (5/17=29%).
Sommer-Time: Returning for an AHL-record 20th season behind the bench for the San Jose Sharks top affiliate, Roy Sommer continues his historic career. In 2015-16, Sommer surpassed Fred ‘Bun’ Cook as the AHL’s all-time leader in wins and collected his first A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as AHL Coach of the Year in 2016-17. Sommer is 695-610-48-72-66 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL) in his career.
