SAN JOSE'S WINNING STREAK SNAPPED IN SHOOTOUT

Mar 1, 2017

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The San Jose Barracuda (33-11-1-4) suffered a 2-1 shootout loss to the Texas Stars (25-26-1-2) on Wednesday night at Solar4America Ice in San Jose, snapping San Jose's 14-game winning streak.

In the first, both teams put nine shots on net and Texas had the lone power play but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

After failing to score on their second man advantage of the game, Texas cashed in at full strength moments later. Julius Honka's right-point shot deflected onto the stick of Ethan Werek (7) who fired the puck over Troy Grosenick's left pad at 9:51.

In the final 20 minutes, San Jose searched for the equalizer and found it in the form of a Ryan Carpenter (9) redirect at 10:32. Tim Heed hit the left post in the final seconds of the regulation, but the game needed extra time.

San Jose outshot Texas 4-to-3 in overtime, and Barclay Goodrow hit the post, but neither team could find the winner.

In a shootout, San Jose failed to score on four tries and Werek tallied for the Texas victory.

Grosenick (21-9-2) suffered his first loss in his last 13 games after allowing one goal on 38 shots. On the other end, Justin Peters (10-12-0) earned the win by making 42 saves on 43 shots.
