SAN JOSE, CA (Jan. 27, 2021) - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has completed two trades this morning that will bring defenseman Christian Jaros to San Jose.

In the first trade, the Sharks have sent D Trevor Carrick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for F Jack Kopacka.

In the second trade, San Jose sent Kopacka and San Jose’s own seventh-round selection in the 2022 NHL Draft to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Jaros.

"Christian is a big right-shot defenseman who plays a physical game," said Wilson. "He is a young player with 76 games of NHL experience so far and has the ability to grow his game."

Jaros, 24, split the season with Ottawa and the Belleville Senators (AHL) in 2019-20. He appeared in 13 games with Ottawa, recording three assists and six penalty minutes. While with Belleville, he skated in 34 contests and recorded 15 points (two goals, 13 assists), a plus-20 rating and 14 penalty minutes. The defenseman finished tied for second on Belleville in plus/minus.

Over the course of his career, Jaros has appeared in 76 NHL games, recording 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) with 33 penalty minutes. In the AHL, he has appeared in 79 games, scoring 31 points (five goals, 26 assists) with a plus-10 rating and 57 penalty minutes.

Internationally, he has represented Slovakia in the 2015 and 2016 World Junior Championships, being named captain in 2016. He helped Slovakia win a Bronze medal in 2015, recording one assist across seven games. In both 2015 and 2016, he was named as a Top 3 Player on the team.

The six-foot-four, 220-pound native of Kosice, Slovakia, was originally selected by Ottawa in the 2015 NHL Draft (fifth round 139th overall).
