SHARKS RECALL DEFENSEMAN JOAKIM RYAN FROM BARRACUDA

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Joakim Ryan (@JoakimRyan) from the San Jose Barracuda (@sjbarracuda), the team's top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (@TheAHL). 
 
Ryan, 24, posted career highs across the board with the San Jose Barracuda in 2016-17, registering 10 goals, 39 assists, 49 points and a plus-27 rating in 65 games. He ranked 2nd amongst Barracuda defensemen in goals, assists and points, while leading all Barracuda skaters in plus/minus (T-4th in the AHL). His 185 shots on goal, also a career high, led all San Jose blueliners. In 15 Calder Cup Playoff games, Ryan led all Barracuda defensemen in goals (4), assists (7, tied) and points (11), and ranked 3rd amongst all AHL rear guards in all three categories.
 
In the Barracuda's only game of the 2017-18 regular season, Ryan had a plus-2 rating. 
 
The five-foot-eleven, 185-pound native of Rumson, New Jersey, was originally selected by San Jose in the seventh round (198th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
 
In a related move, Paul Martin has been placed on Injured Reserve.
