Sharks Recall Kevin Labanc

Nov 7, 2016

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled forward Kevin Labanc (@Str8ToTheBanc) from the San Jose Barracuda (@sjbarracuda), the team's top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (@TheAHL).

The 20-year-old Labanc is tied for the Barracuda team lead in both points (10) and goals (4) in six games during the first professional season of his career. His plus-6 rating and 27 shots on goal both pace the Barracuda, and his 1.67 points per game are T-2nd in the AHL (minimum four games played) with fellow Barracuda teammate Nikolay Goldobin. Labanc ranks T-3rd in points, T-5th in goals and 3rd in shots on goal amongst all AHL rookies, despite having played in only six games this season.

Last season, Labanc won the OHL Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy award (top scorer) with 127 points (39 goals, 88 assists) in 65 games with Barrie, and finished ranked 1st in OHL in assists and in plus-minus (+60). The forward also took home the OHL Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy award (top scoring right winger), was named "Best Playmaker" and "Best Penalty Killer" in the OHL coaches poll, and finished with the second-most points in the entire CHL (Conor Garland had one more point).

The five-foot-ten, 185-pound native of Brooklyn, New York, was originally drafted by San Jose in the sixth round (171st overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. This marks his first NHL recall.
