BARRACUDA ANNOUNCE 2023-24 LEADERSHIP

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda), AHL (@TheAHL) affiliate of the San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks), and Head Coach John McCarthy today announced Ryan Carpenter, Nathan Todd, Scott Sabourin, Cole Cassels and Justin Bailey as the five alternate captains for the 2023-24 season. A captain will be named at a later date. 

Carpenter, 32, enters his tenth professional season and his second stint with the Sharks organization. He previously served as an alternate captain for the Barracuda in the 2016-17 season. Under contract with the New York Rangers, Carpenter appeared in 22 games with the Rangers and 51 with their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolfpack in the 2022-23 season. 

Todd, 27, enters his seventh professional season, his first in San Jose. In 16 games with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, Todd picked up 14 points (eight goals, three assists). He previously served as an alternate captain of the Brampton Beast in the ECHL from 2018-20.  

Sabourin, 31, enters his eleventh professional season and his first in San Jose. The native of Orleans, Ontario, joins the Barracuda with 43 games of experience in the NHL and another 405 AHL games to his name, including 51 games with the Belleville Senators last season. 

Cassels, 28, enters his ninth professional season and his first in San Jose. He previously served as an alternate captain of the Oshawa Generals in the OHL in the 2014-15 season. He joins the Barracuda after 13 games with Södertälje SK of HockeyAllsvenskan and 64 games with the AHL’s Belleville Senators last season, where he picked up 51 points (12 goals, 39 assists). 

Bailey, 28, enters his ninth professional season and his first in San Jose. He previously served as an alternate captain of the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL during the 2014-15 season. Bailey joins the Barracuda with 82 games of experience in the NHL and another 354 AHL contests, including 58 games with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors last season, where he picked up 32 points (19 goals, 13 assists) 

San Jose opens the 2023-24 regular season against the Rockford IceHogs at Tech CU Arena on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. PT.
