Nov 12, 2023

San Jose, CA – The San Jose Barracuda (3-5-3-0) scored just a 1:22 into period one on Sunday afternoon at Tech CU Arena and never looked back, downing the Charlotte Checkers (7-4-0-0), 5-1.

In the victory, defenseman Valteri Pulli notched his first AHL goal and Scott Sabourin found the back of the next for the first time in a Barracuda sweater. Justin Bailey also scored his team-leading fifth of the year and Thomas Bordeleau made at back-to-back games with a goal.

In the first, Tanner Kaspick (3) potted the Barracuda’s fastest goal of the year just a minute and 22 seconds in as he picked off a Checkers pass in the offensive zone and lifted a backhander past Spencer Knight. Then, at 10:18, Pulli (1) ripped in his first off the year as Cole Cassels found him charging to the net.

In the second, Ryan McAllister (5) beat Magnus Chrona on a deflected point shot but Sabourin (1) would push the Barracuda’s lead back to two has he snapped in a short-side shot from the left wing at 14:40 while shorthanded.

In the third, Bordeleau (2) went upstairs on Knight at 5:28 to make it 4-1 and then Bailey (5) sealed the win as the puck bounced off of him and in to make it 5-1.

Magnus Chrona (1-3-1) collected his first AHL win by making 26 saves on 27 Checkers shots.
