BARRACUDA FALL 4-1 TO EAGLES IN PRESEASON FINALE

Oct 10, 2021

Loveland, CO – The San Jose Barracuda (0-2-0-0) scored the first goal on Sunday but failed to generate any more offense, falling 4-1 to the Colorado Eagles (Colorado Avalanche) (2-0-0-0) at the Budweiser Events Center in the team’s final exhibition tune-up.

Just 4:53 into the first, Nick Cicek (1) pinched from the right point and snapped in a shot from the slot past Justus Annunen to give the Barracuda a 1-0 lead. San Jose managed to kill off Colorado’s first power-play in the opening 20, but just as the game returned to full strength, Keifer Sherwood (1) raced down the right-wing and beat Alexei Melnichuk short-side, top-shelf at 16:40.

In the second, Martin Kaut sent a shot on net from the right point and Luka Barzan (1) swiped in the rebound to give the Eagles their first lead, 2-1, at 3:01. At 9:11, Alex Beaucage (1) fired a one-timer from under the left-dot past Melnichuk to extend Colorado’s lead to 3-1.

In the third, it was Beaucage (2) again, this time on the power-play at 6:22 to give the Eagles a decisive 4-1 lead.

Annunen earned the win, working 30:07. Peyton Jones played the final 29:53, turning aside all 15 shots he faced. Melnichuk suffered the loss, giving up four goals on 40 shots.

The Barracuda open the 2021-22 regular season on Sun., Oct. 17 (5 p.m.) at Bakersfield. The team’s home opener is slated for Fri., Oct. 29 (7 p.m.) at the SAP Center at San Jose. Get your tickets at SJBarracuda.com/tickets.
