BARRACUDA FALL SHORT IN WILD AFFAIR IN TUCSON, 7-5

Dec 2, 2023

Tucson, AZ – The San Jose Barracuda (5-10-4-0) fell into multipe three goal holes on Saturday at the Tucson Convention Center, and nearly came all the way back, but would eventually come up short against the Tucson Roadrunners (12-6-1-1), 7-5.

In the loss, the Barracuda got multiple points from Nathan Todd (1+1=2), Scott Sabourin (0+2=2), and Shakir Mukhamadullin (1+1=2).

In the first, Mukamadullin (2) dribbled a shot over the goal line at 2:30, for his first in his last 16 games, but Tucson’s Hunter Drew (4) would answer 10 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1. At 11:36, Cameron Hebig (5) snapped in the go-ahead goal and then Travis Barron (3) made it 3-1 at 16:16. With the period winding down, Drew (4) wired a shot past Eetu Makiniemi with just six seconds left in the period as he carried it into the zone down the left wing.

In the second, Magnus Chrona would enter the game and turn aside all 16 shots he saw, including a pair of point-blank opportunities from John Leonard and Josh Doan. At 1:52, Thomas Bordeleau (6) went top shelf to make 4-2, and then, at 3:17, Brandon Coe (6) made it 4-3 as he received a pass from Connor MacEachern and went forehand-to-backhand on a breakaway.

In the third, the Jan Jenik (4) would rip a shot past Chrona at 2:23 to make it 5-3 and Barron (4) would notch his second of the game off a Barracuda turnover at 4:49. But, just 11 seconds later, on his 28th birthday, Todd (3) went upstairs to cut the lead back down to two. At 11:41, Nick Cicek (1) pounded a blast from the point on the power-play to cut it back down to one, but despite multiple chances, including a goal that was waved off due to a premature whistle, the Barracuda failed to tie the score and Barron (5) completed the hat trick with an empty netter at 19:32.
