SAN JOSE’S THREE-GAME WINNING STREAK SNAPPED IN 7-2 LOSS

Dec 30, 2016

Bakersfield, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (14-7-1-3) allowed a franchise-record five opening-period goals and the Bakersfield Condors (11-11-4-1) snapped their six-game losing skid with a 7-2 win on Friday night at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.

Ryan Hamilton (10) tipped a puck off the left post and into the net just 29 seconds into the opening period and then David Musil made it 2-0 Condors on their second shot as the blueliner collected a loose puck in the slot and fired it over Mantas Armalis' left shoulder at 3:45. Armalis was pulled for Troy Grosenick, but the offensive onslaught continued. Patrick Russell (1) netted his first pro goal on Bakersfield's fourth shot and then Anton Slepyshev (3) sniped the puck from the left wing over the right shoulder of Grosenick. Anton Lander (9) made it 5-0 Condors on Bakersfield's 11th shot and Grosenick was replaced by Armalis after allowing three goals on nine shots in 12 minutes and 13 seconds of work.

In the second, San Jose finally found the back of the net as Ryan Carpenter (5) redirected a Tim Heed shot past Laurent Brossoit 29 seconds into the frame. Rourke Chartier (7) then banked the puck off the back of Brossoit from just above the goal line at 7:41 to cut the Condors lead to three. Armalis stopped all seven shots he faced in the period, and San Jose outshot the Condors 17 to five.

In the final frame, Hamilton (11) forced a turnover and backhanded a shot over Armalis's right pad for his second of the game before Jujhar Khaira (8) powered his way to the net and snuck the puck inside the right post to make it 7-2.

Armalis (7-2-2) suffered the loss after allowing four goals on 13 shots in 47 minutes and 48 seconds, while Brossoit (7-7-3) earned the victory by making 34 saves on 36 shots.
