Barracuda Have DELLicious Win in Texas
Apr 8, 2016Austin, TX – Aaron Dell made 33 saves for his 3rd shutout of the season as the San Jose Barracuda (30-24-8-3, 71pts) presented by Barracuda Networks picked up a much needed win with a 3-0 victory over the host Texas Stars (38-25-7-3, 86pts) in front 6,458 fans at Cedar Park Center on Friday evening. With the Barracuda (.546%) win and the Charlotte Checkers (.556%) idol this evening, San Jose inched a little closer to the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with three games remaining.
Bryan Lerg, Julius Bergman, and Nikolay Goldobin scored for the Barracuda while Aaron Dell made 33 saves for his 16th win between the pipes. John McCarthy added two assists as the Barracuda were whistled for a season high 39 penalty minutes in the road victory. The Barracuda and Stars tangle again in Austin, TX on Saturday at 5pm (pacific).
A free flowing first period of play saw the Barracuda outshoot the Stars 9-6 and take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Captain Bryan Lerg (21st) found a loose puck in front of the net and sent a no look backhander through a screen and past netminder Maxime Lagace at 7:30 assisted by John McCarthy and Mirco Mueller.
Julius Bergman (3rd) scored his 1st career professional power play goal after his one timer at the side of the net hit the twine after a great feed by Ryan Carpenter just 52 seconds into the second period. After that, it was the Aaron Dell show as he made 16 saves as the Barracuda were outshot 16-3 in the middle frame. The Barracuda were whistled for a season high 35 penalty minutes which included 17 to Gus Young (5th) after he stood up for his defensive partner Joakim Ryan who was drilled from behind by Branden Troock at 8:42. San Jose led 2-0 after 40 minutes of play.
Aaron Dell made 11 more saves in the third period and Nikolay Goldobin (19th) scored an empty netter after a great play by John McCarthy at the red line. Shots in the third period were 11-7 in favor of Texas.

Ryan Carpenter now has a six game point streak (2-5-7) with an assist…San Jose was whistled for a season high 39 penalty minutes… Gus Young picked up 19 penalty minutes.
