BARRACUDA ROLL TO 5-1 WIN OVER RAMPAGE

Jan 27, 2018

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The San Jose Barracuda (20-17-1-2) exploded for three second-period goals and rode the early lead to a 5-1 win over the San Antonio Rampage (23-17-4-0) on Saturday night at AT&T Center.

One minute and 57 seconds into the first, Rudolfs Balcers (9) got behind San Antonio's defense and beat spencer Martin with a forehand-to-backhand move.

In the second, San Jose added to its lead 27 seconds into the period when Jacob Middleton's sailing wrister from the point beat a screened Martin. The goal was Middleton's first in his last 51 games. Martin's night would end less than two minutes later when an uncovered Emerson Clark (4) swiped in a pass from Tim Clifton. San Jose completed the three-goal second on a four-on-three power play at 18:11 after Cavan Fitzgerald (4) ripped a shot past Ville Husso from the right. Husso had stopped 14 straight in relief before the power-play goal.

In the third, Balcers put the game well out of reach when he ringed a shot off the far post and in at 5:04. Trent Vogelhuber (3) deflected an Andrei Mironov shot past Antoine Bibeau at 15:23, ending San Jose's shutout bid. But the Barracuda would cruise to the 5-1 win, moving to 3-1-1 on the road trip.

Bibeau (13-8-1) earned the victory by making 21 saves. In 22 minutes and eight seconds of work, Martin took the loss after allowing three goals on 16 shots. Husso worked the remaining 37 minutes and 52 seconds, allowing two goals on 20 shots.
