BARRACUDA TAMED BY WILD, 5-3

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (10-9-0-1) gave up a power play and shorthanded goal in the first period on Wednesday against the Iowa Wild (8-6-2-2), and even trailed 3-0 at one point, before getting within a goal in the third, but Iowa sealed the 5-3 win with a late empty netter.

In the first, at 14:49, Sam Walker (9) would make it goals in consecutive games as he beat Eetu Makiniemi short-side while up a man. Then, Joe Cramarossa (4) would make it goals in three straight games by beating Makiniemi shorthanded with a forehand to backhand move at 18:07.

In the second, Steven Fogarty (5) gave Iowa a 3-0 lead on the Wild’s second power play of the game, but Thomas Bordeleau (9) would finally get the Barracuda on the board with a one-timer at 9:48, also on the man-advantage.

In the third, Michael O’Leary (3) cleaned up a rebound to push the Wild’s lead back to three, but Danil Gushchin (5) would cut the deficit back down to two by sneaking a shot through the five-hole of Jesper Waldstedt at 3:54. The Barracuda got within a goal as William Eklund (5) was crossed a pass from Gushchin at 11:47 but Iowa would avoid the collapse by cashing in with an empty-netter from Adam Beckman (4) with less than a minute to go.

Wallstedt (4-3-3) picked up the win by making 31 saves, while Makiniemi (5-4-1) suffered the loss, making 20 saves on 24 shots.
