Road Return: The Barracuda kick off a two-game road trip in Ontario against the Reign on Tuesday before wrapping up in Coachella Valley against the Firebirds on Wednesday. Tuesday marks a stretch of six of seven away from home. The Barracuda are 0-4-1-0 against the Reign this season and 0-1-1-0 at the Toyota Arena, having been outscored 18-7 in the five games. After Tuesday, the Barracuda and Reign have two more meetings on their eight-game season series.

 

Last Time Out: The Barracuda scored twice on the power play on Saturday afternoon but gave up three unanswered goals in the third period and ultimately fell 5-2 to the Abbotsford Canucks at Tech CU Arena. In the loss, Thomas Bordeleau buried his second goal in as many games and Scott Sabourin made it goals in three straight. Magnus Chrona suffered the loss, allowing four goals on 27 shots. 

 

Last Meeting: In the last meeting between the Barracuda and Reign, on Jan. 9 at Tech CU Arena, Ontario jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a full-strength goal from Sam Fagemo, a power-play goal from Charles Hudon, and a shorthanded goal from Akil Thomas. Danil Gushchin would cut the lead down to two at 12:57 of the third, but Fagemo would score again with the net empty to seal the 4-1 win. Erik Portillo made 36 saves in the victory while Eetu Makiniemi allowed three on 31.

 

Cuda Check: The Barracuda enter Tuesday seven points out of a playoff spot with 21 games to go. SJ is 4-4-1-1 in its last 10 and 3-4-3-0 in its last 10 on the road. The Cuda have nine power-play goals in its last four games (9/20=45%) and now rank T-11th in the league on the advantage (19.9%) and 10th in goals for (3.20), but 31st on the penalty kill (75.0%) and 32nd in goals against (3.65).

  

Todd’s Time: Forward Nathan Todd collected an assist on Saturday and now has seven points in his last four games (2+5=7). Since recording just one goal in his first 15 games with SJ, Todd has potted 15 in his last 35 outings and is averaging over a point-per-game during that stretch (14+21=37). The Kemptville, Ontario, native is first on the team in goals (16), points (42), power-play goals (5), power-play assists (11) and second in shots (122), and assists (26).

 

Coles Notes: Barracuda forward Cole Cassels picked up an assist on Saturday and now has points in nine of 11 (2+10=11). Cassels is currently pacing the SJB in helpers (31) and is third in points (38). Additionally, he is first among Cuda forwards in plus/minus (+9).

 

Reign Report: The Reign enter Tuesday having won its last two games and have points in three straight (2-0-0-1). Ontario has held its opponents to two or fewer in four of five and rank eighth in the AHL in goals against (2.82). In addition, the Reign are ninth in the league on the power play (20.2%). Ontario forward Sam Fagemo is third in the AHL in goals (25) and first in power-play goals (12), and T.J. Tynan is second in the league in assists (38). Rookie netminder Erik Portillo is fifth in the AHL in save percentage (.921) and 12th in goals-against (2.45). The Reign enter Tuesday tied with the Bakersfield Condors for the sixth spot in the Pacific Division and are three points behind Abbotsford.
