One and Done: The Barracuda conclude the 2021-22 season on Saturday at the brand-new Dollar Loan Center in Henderson. The Barracuda are 1-6 versus the Golden Knights affiliate this year and 0-3 in Las Vegas. The ‘Cuda have dropped four in a row to Henderson since beating the Silver Knights on Jan. 8, 6-3, at the SAP Center and have been outscored 25-to-13 in the four matchups and 38-to-23 during the season series. Between the regular season and playoffs, Barracuda are 0-9 all-time when playing in Sin City. Since moving into the DLC, the Silver Knights are 5-2-1 and have now won four-straight.
Major Movement: Touted prospects Daniil Gushchin and Gannon Laroque joined the Barracuda earlier this week following their junior campaigns and made their pro debuts on Wednesday in Bakersfield. Laroque collected his first professional assist in the loss against Henderson on Friday. Guschchin has already signed his NHL contract and was assigned from the Sharks to the Barracuda on Tuesday, while Laroque has yet to sign an NHL deal but joins the Barracuda on an amateur tryout. In addition, the Barracuda recalled d-man Cole Moberg from Orlando of the ECHL and signed forward Tyler Bird and defensemen defenseman Luke McInnis to professional tryout agreements.
Two More in Teal: The Sharks inked rookie d-man Nick Cicek to a two-year entry-level contract last Monday. In his first pro campaign, Cicek, 21, has recorded 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 51 games with the Barracuda.
Rough Road: After earning points in eight of nine games to start March, the Barracuda have now dropped its last 14 games after falling 6-4 in Henderson on Friday. The 14-game skid (0-12-2-0) is the longest in franchise history. During the stretch, the Barracuda have been held to just 31 total goals (2.21 goals-for-per-game) and have scored one or fewer goals six times. In addition, the team has given up 70 goals during the 14 games (5.00 goals-against-per-game).
Great Dane: Denmark native Joachim Blichfeld is at 24 goals and is just one tally shy of matching Barclay Goodrow’s franchise record for red lights in a single season which was set in the 2016-17 season. Blichfeld already set the club’s record for power-play goals (12) in a season earlier this year. Blichfeld, who sat out Friday with a lower-body injury, enters Saturday just one point shy of 100 in his AHL career (52 goals, 47 assists).
Lane Day: Lane Pederson notched a pair of goals in the Barracuda’s 4-3 OT loss to the Canucks on Friday and now has 18 points (9+9=18) in 21 games with the club so far this year. Pederson has also skated in 28 games with the Sharks, notching two helpers.
Knight Light: The Silver Knights enter Friday having won four in a row and are 6-0-1 over its last seven and 7-2-1 in its last 10. Since getting shutout at home 1-0 on April 5 against Rockford, the Silver Knights have scored 3+ goals in each of its last seven and are averaging 4.7 goals-for during the stretch.
