Afternoon Delight: On Saturday afternoon, the Barracuda close out its season-long seven game homestand with the second game of back-to-back against the Ontario Reign (LA Kings). The Barracuda were dealt a 3-0 loss on Friday and are now 2-3-1-0 during their home stretch and 0-7-0-0 in the first game of back-to-back against the same team. In the second game of a back-to-back, the Barracuda are 3-0-3-0 this season. A year ago, the Barracuda went 5-3-0-0 against the Kings affiliate and 3-1-0-0 at home.

 

No Fun Friday: The Barracuda outshot the Reign 32-23 on Friday night at Tech CU Arena but failed to beat veteran goaltender David Rittich and would fall 3-0. For the Reign, it was their third consecutive shutout victory. Ontario got a power-play goal from Sam Fagemo at 11:50 of the first, scored again 24 seconds into the third off the stick of Alex Turcotte and tacked on an empty netter to seal the win at 18:28 from the captain T.J. Tynan.

 

Make it Reign: The Ontario Reign enter Saturday coming off three consecutive shutout wins and have points in seven straight (5-0-1-1). David Rittich has earned consecutive blank sheets and has now stopped 58 straight shots. Rittich is tied for first in the AHL in shutouts (3) and the Reign rank fourth in goals-against average (2.50).

 

Reign Report: The Reign enter Friday with a 7-1 record when coming off a win. Forwards T.J. Tynan and Alex Turcotte rank T-5th in AHL scoring (17) and Tynan is first in the league in assists (15). Sam Fagemo, who scored on Friday, now has five goals in his last three games and points in all five contests (6+3=9) he’s appeared in this season. Among defensemen, rookie Brandt Clark is first in points (16), T-first in power-play goals (2), second in shots (58), T-second in power-play assists (5) and power-play points (7), and is T-second in assists (12). Clark extended his point streak to eight games (2+8=10) on Friday and assist streak to six (7) and now has points in 10 of his last 11 (3+11=14). Ontario has been on the PK the sixth fewest times (51) in the league entering Saturday and rank 2nd in road penalty kill (92%) and 11th in road power play (21.2%)

 

Bords Boiling: Thomas Bordeleau notched three points (2+1=3) in Tuesday’s win, his fourth-career three-point game and his third career multi-goal game. Over his last six outings, he has three multi-point efforts and eight total points (3+5=8). Among players who have played in six or more games, Bordeleau ranks first on the team in points-per-game (1.00) and T-first in shooting percentage (35.3%). A season ago against the Reign, he had three goals and two assists in eight games.

  

Cards on the Table: After notching his first three-point game of his career on Tuesday, Ethan Cardwell now ranks T-seventh in scoring (11) among first-year players. On the Barracuda, he is T-second in points, third in assists (7), goals (4), and shots (30), and fifth in points-per-game (.79). A season ago, with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, Cardwell collected 90 points (43+47=90) in 62 games and was named the Sharks Prospect of the Year.
