Reign or Shine: The Barracuda return to Tech CU Arena on Tuesday to close out a three-game set with the Ontario Reign (LA Kings). Despite notching a season-high four goals in the third period on Saturday in SoCal, the Barracuda were dropped 5-4 in overtime and are now 0-3-1-0 in four games versus Ontario.

 

Last Time Out: The Barracuda were shutout for five consecutive periods over the weekend against the Reign but exploded for four goals in the third on Saturday, forcing overtime, before eventually falling 5-4 in the extra session. In the third, Radim Simek recorded three points (1+2=3) and Scott Sabourin (2+0=2) scored twice in a two-minute span. The Barracuda also got a goal from Shakir Mukhamadullin. The Reign opened the scoring 42 seconds into the first, off the stick of Sam Fagemo who would notch two more goals after that point, including the OTW at 2:17. The Reign also got goals from Sam Helenius and Akil Thomas.

 

OT Woes: After Saturday, the Barracuda are now 0-5 in overtime this season, the most OT losses since the 2019-20 campaign, and the second most in franchise history for a sinlge season.

 

Sabourin Sizzling: The Sharks recalled forward Scott Sabourin on Monday before the team’s five-game road trip. Sabourin scored twice on Saturday for the Barracuda and now leads the team in power-play goals (4), penalty minutes (92) and majors (6). He is also T-second on the club in goals (9). The veteran forward has seven goals in his last nine games.

    

Gush Going: Sophomore forward Danil Gushchin is T-seventh in the AHL in scoring (28) and goals (11) and is third in shots (118). On the Cuda, he is first in points, goals, and shots, and is T-second in power-play goals (3) and T-third in assists (17). Over his last 12 games he has 13 points (5+8=13).

 

King Leon: Barracuda blueliner Leon Gawanke, who sat out Saturday, has 18 points (5+13=18) over his last 18 games. Among league defenders, he is T-fourth in points (26), goals (7) and assists (18). A season ago, as a member of the Manitoba Moose, he led all league defenders in power-play goals (7) and was T-first in total goals (20). 

 

Love Shak: Barracuda defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin scored on Saturday and now has 16 points (4+12=16) over his last 14 outings. The former Devils first-rounder is T-sixth among league blueliners in points (22), T-fifth in power-play points (10) and T-fourth in assists (18).

 

Fagemo Flying: Reign forward Sam Fagemo scored three times on Saturday and now has eight points (6+2=8) in six games against the Barracuda this season. Fagemo ranks T-third in the AHL in goals, second in power-play goals (7) and third in points-per-game (1.33) among skaters who have appeared in at least 10 games.
