On the Road Again: After a 3-0 win on Wednesday over the San Diego Gulls to wrap up a three-and-one homestand, the Barracuda drop the puck on a five-game road trip beginning on Saturday in Tucson. Saturday marks the first of two games over the weekend versus the Coyotes' top affiliate and the third game on the eight-game season series. In the first two meetings at Tech CU Arena on Oct. 28 and 29, the Barracuda were dealt a 5-1 loss and a 4-3 shootout loss. On Oct. 29, the Barracuda and Roadrunners combined for a franchise record 170 penalty minutes after a four-on-four brawl broke out right before the opening faceoff. The Barracuda trailed in that game 2-0 after 20 minutes but scored three consecutive goals in the second before falling 4-3 in the third round of the shootout.

  

Key to Victory: The Barracuda are 6-0-0-1 this season when scoring 3+ goals. When giving 4+ goals, they are 0-3-0-1. 

 

Prickly Pair: The Barracuda (2nd: 21.31) and Roadrunners (1st: 22.08) rank first and second in the AHL in penalty minutes per game entering Saturday. San Jose is first in the AHL in majors (11) while Tucson is T-first in 10-minute misconducts (5).

 

First and Worst: The Barracuda enter Saturday boasting the AHL’s top penalty kill (92.9%) but the league’s worst power play (11.6%). Against Tucson, the Barracuda have gone 5/6 (83.3%) on the PK and 2/9 (22.2%) on the PP. Tucson is 29th on the power play (14.8%) and 22nd on the penalty kill (76.0%).

 

Run and Gun: Roadrunners forward Michael Carcone ranks T-fifth in the AHL in scoring (16) and T-sixth in assists (11). The third-year Roadrunner is pacing his club in points, assists, penalty minutes (35), power-play goals (3), and shots (43). He has a team-high five points in two games against the Barracuda this season (2+3=5) and in seven career games against San Jose, he has notched five goals and five assists.
