SAN JOSE (July 22, 2021) – San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed forward Joachim Blichfeld (@joachimblich) to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Joachim was a top player in the American Hockey League last season, leading the Barracuda in goals and points," said Wilson. "He has shown over his career that he is a goal-scorer at each level, and with the experience he has gained in his short time at the NHL level, we feel that he is ready to compete for a spot in our lineup next season."

Blichfeld, 22, appeared in five games and scored one goal with 12 penalty minutes. He primarily spent the season with the San Jose Barracuda (@sjbarracuda), San Jose’s top developmental affiliate in the American Hockey League, appearing in 25 games and recording 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists). He led the Barracuda in points, co-led in goals and finished tied for fifth on the team in assists.

Prior to his time with San Jose, he appeared in 187 career Western Hockey League (WHL) games recording 228 points (105 goals, 123 assists). He was named the WHL’s Player of the Year in the 2018-19 season after leading the league in points (114), and was also named to the WHL West First All-Star Team.

Prior to joining Portland, the winger played for Malmo’s junior squads in the Swedish junior divisions, winning a bronze medal in the Under-18 division in 2015-16.

Internationally, Blichfeld has represented Denmark at several tournaments, including the World Jr. Championship (2018, 2017), the U-18 World Jr. Championship (2016), and the D1A U-18 World Jr. Championship (2015 – Gold Medal).

The six-foot-two, 186-pound native of Frederikshavn, Denmark, was originally selected by San Jose in the 2016 NHL Draft (seventh round, 210th overall).
