SHARKS REASSIGN SANTERI HATAKKA TO SAN JOSE BARRACUDA

SAN JOSE, CA  (Dec. 2, 2021) – The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that the club has reassigned defenseman Santeri Hatakka to the San Jose Barracuda (@sjbarracuda), the team's top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). 

Hatakka, 20, has appeared in seven games with the Sharks this season, recording one point in that span. The rookie made his NHL debut on Oct. 30 against Winnipeg and notched his first NHL point with an assist on Logan Couture’s game-winning goal on Nov. 9 against Calgary.  

Hatakka spent the 2020-21 season with Ilves in the Finnish Elite League and finished the season with seven points (one goal, six assists) in 44 games. He also appeared in 28 games and recorded three points (one goal, two assists) during the 2019-20 season with Ilves and led team rookies in plus/minus. Prior to his time with Ilves, he spent two seasons with Jokerit U20, recording 29 points (eight goals, 21 assists) across 89 games. 

Internationally, Hatakka appeared in the 2020 and 2021 World Junior Championships with Finland. He earned a bronze medal in 2021, appearing in seven games and recording two points (one goal, one assist). 

The six-foot-one, 191-pound native of Riihimaki, Finland was originally selected by San Jose in the 2019 NHL Draft (sixth round, 184th overall).
