SHARKS SIGN GOALTENDER ZACH SAWCHENKO TO AN ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT
Apr 12, 2021SAN JOSE, CA (April 12, 2021) - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) general manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed goaltender Zach Sawchenko (@Chunko_31) to a two-year contract. The contract begins this season and runs through 2021-22.
This season, Sawchenko has split time between the San Jose Barracuda (AHL) (@sjbarracuda) and the Allen Americans (ECHL). In three games with the Barracuda, he has posted a 1-1-0 record with a 2.18 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. In seven games with Allen, he is 5-2-0 with a 2.55 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.
Sawchenko also split time last season between San Jose and Allen, playing 13 games with each club. With Allen, he posted an 8-2-3 record with a 2.35 goals-against and a .930 save percentage, leading the team in both categories. With the Barracuda, he was 6-4-2 with a 2.87 goals-against and a .911 save percentage. He ranked third among AHL rookie goaltenders in save percentage (minimum 10 games played) and sixth in goals-against average.
The six-foot-one, 185-pound native of Calgary, Alberta was originally signed as a free agent by the Barracuda on March 26, 2019.
