Barracuda in the Community: February

Mar 7, 2016

Most of February may have been spent on the road, but that doesn’t mean the San Jose Barracuda weren’t doing their part in the community all month long! The race for a playoff spot is starting to heat up so every game counts from here on out. Let’s take a quick look back at everything that Frenzy and the San Jose Barracuda were involved in last month!

To kick off the month of February we head up to Syracuse, NY which was the site of the 2016 AHL All Star Classic! The San Jose Barracuda were very well represented with forwards Barclay Goodrow and Ryan Carpenter taking part in the weekend’s festivities. Both players registered a point during the All Star Game with an assist for the Pacific Division. Players weren’t the only Barracuda representation in upstate New York, Frenzy was also at the All Star Game hanging out with fans and other mascots from around the AHL!

Barracuda Math Class continued to make its way around the San Jose area by visiting 5 more schools during the month of February! Frenzy as well as Barracuda players including Troy Grosenick, Nikolay Goldobin, Barclay Goodrow and Aaron Dell all helped teach the game of hockey (and math) to a number of local students. If you think February was a big month for the Math Class, wait until you see the month of March!

February also brought the Barracuda their first ever Pink in the Rink Night which was presented by Kaiser Permanente. The Barracuda players wore specialty pink jerseys for their game on 2/13 and all of the jerseys were auctioned off throughout the game. In the coming weeks, the Barracuda will be donating over $11,000 to Cancer CAREpoint to help their fight against breast cancer. In the days leading up to the game, Barracuda captains Bryan Lerg and John McCarthy joined Frenzy in a visit to Kaiser’s Santa Clara location to visit some of their breast cancer patients. We wish all of those battling this disease the best in their fight and road to recovery!

Normally, a Coolest Game Party is a Sharks thing but during February the Barracuda were able to take over two of their own! Frenzy, Petter Emanuelsson and Julius Bergman joined Sharks fans at Silvercreek Sportsplex as the Sharks took on the Chicago Blackhawks. While Frenzy was trying to steal slices of pizza from fans, the Barracuda players were on hand signing autographs during the first period. Later in the month Frenzy and SJ Sharkie joined Sharks and Barracuda Kids Club members at their own private watch party held inside Stanley’s at Sharks Ice. Kids Club members won raffle prizes, played trivia games and got to draw pictures of some of their favorite Sharks players.

One other great event that the Barracuda got to be a part of was San Pedro Square Market’s trivia night, which is held every Monday at 7:00. Karl Stollery and Trevor Parkes joined dozens of trivia goers for a night of fun. Karl and Trevor dubbed their team the “Cuda Crew” but they did not fare so well in the game, coming in 26th place. Despite the low finish, the two did manage to make their way into a photo with the first place team.

The Barracuda made a few other stops in February including Barracuda Bite Night and the Sharks season ticket holder skate at Sharks Ice, but that wraps up February! March is going to be a busy month on and off the ice for the Barracuda and with the playoffs right around the corner we hope to see everyone at the SAP Center cheering on the team.

Frenzy is also looking to keep his schedule jam packed so if you want to have the hardest working fish in the AHL at your event, head to Frenzy's page and fill out an appearance request form!
