Sky high in Colorado: After a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Eagles on Friday, the Barracuda and Eagles wrap up their two-game weekend set on Saturday. The Barracuda are 1-2 against the Avs affiliate this year, 12-10-3-1 all-time, and 6-5-1-0 all-time at the Budweiser Events Center. Saturday will be the fourth game on the eight-game season series. The Barracuda are 5-2-0-1 in the second game of a back-to-back.
Col of Duty: The Colorado Eagles rank first in the AHL in goals against (2.44), 11th in shots against (29.92) and are 10-2-2-0 in one-goal games. Additionally, Colorado is fourth in the league in shots (33.04) and is 11-3-2-0 when they outshoot their opponent and 11-1-2-0 when they score first. Eagles netminder Jonas Johansson is third in the AHL in goals-against (2.10) and fourth in save percentage (.929), while Colorado’s 1-B goaltender Justus Annunen is T-fourth in the AHL in wins (9). The Eagles’ seven-game winning streak from Nov. 13 to Nov. 30, seven-game home winning streak from Nov. 5 to Nov. 26, and 11-game point streak (10-0-1-0) from Nov. 5 to Nov. 30 are all AHL-highs this season. After Friday's win, the Eagles are second in the AHL in home winning percentage (9-3-0-1=.731%).
Sluggish Starts: The Barracuda have given up the first goal in each of its last 11 games, going 5-6 during the stretch. The Cuda have allowed the first goal in 17 of its 26 contests this year and are 8-8-0-1 when doing so.
Spiky Fish: The Barracuda rank second in the AHL in penalty minutes per game (20.00) and are first in majors (20) and minors (155). Jeff Viel is second in the AHL in minors (18), third in penalty minutes (76), and T-fourth in majors (4). William Eklund is T-fourth among rookies in minors (9).
Rookie Arrivals: Rookies Thomas Bordeleau (11), Tristen Robins (9), William Eklund (8), Danil Gushchin (7), Brandon Coe (2), and Ozzy Wiesblatt (1) have accounted for 37 of the Barracuda’s 71 goals scored (52%). The most among any rookie class this season. Wiesblatt (Rd 1, 31st overall), Bordeleau (Rd 2, 38th Overall), Robins (Rd 2, 56th Overall), Gushchin (Rd 3, 76th Overall), and Coe (Rd 4, 98th Overall) were all part of the Sharks' historic nine-forward draft class in 2020. Bordeleau is T-first among rookies in goals, and T-third, along with Robins and Eklund, in power-play goals (4).
