MAKINIEMI MAKES 37 SAVES IN SHUTOUT OF WRANGLERS

San Jose, Ca. – The San Jose Barracuda (13-20-7-0) got 37 stops from Eetu Makiniemi, shutting out the Calgary Wranglers (22-13-3-0), 3-0, on Friday night at Tech CU Arena. The win was the Barracuda’s fourth straight against the Wranglers.

After a scoreless first, Ethan Frisch (1) worked to the right dot and ripped a shot over the left shoulder of Dustin Wolf at 13:54 for his first in his pro career, giving the Barracuda a 1-0 lead. After Scott Sabourin drew a penalty, Nathan Todd (9) fired a one-timer under Wolf’s left arm from the left wing at 17:18 to give San Jose a 2-0 lead.

In the third, the Barracuda extended their advantage when Jordy Bellerive (4) backhanded in a loose puck from in tight during a delayed penalty for his first in a Cuda sweater. The Wranglers would pull Wolf with over six minutes and 30 seconds to go and even had a power play but Makiniemi turned aside all 11 shots he faced en route to his second shutout of the year and second against Calgary.
