Wranglers Wrap: After an 8–3 win on Friday at the Saddledome against the Wranglers, the Barracuda wrap up the regular season in Calgary on Sunday (12 p.m. PT). San Jose is 2–1 against the Wranglers this season and 1–0 on the road. Dating back to last season, the Barracuda have won three of four at the Saddledome. The Cuda currently sit two points ahead of the Wranglers in the Pacific Division, meaing a point earned by SJB on Sunday would secure the Pacific Division's fifth spot.

Playoff Punch: With last Friday’s win, the Barracuda clinched their first playoff spot since 2020–21 and their first Calder Cup Playoff berth since 2018–19. If San Jose earns a point on Sunday, they’ll secure the fifth seed in the Pacific Division, setting up a first-round matchup with Coachella Valley. If they lose in regulation, they’ll face the Ontario Reign in the opening round.

Do the Cagn Cagn: On Wednesday, Barracuda blueliner Luca Cagnoni was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team, joining Danny O’Regan (2016–17) as the only players in team history to receive the honor—and becoming the first defenseman to do so. The 20-year-old is the highest-scoring rookie defenseman in the AHL in the last seven years, putting up 52 points (16G, 36A) in 63 games. The Burnaby, B.C., native leads the league in power-play points (34), ranks second in power-play assists (23), and is tied for fourth in power-play goals (11). His 16 goals are the most ever by a Barracuda defenseman in a single season.

Hot Pot: Barracuda forward Andrew Poturalski was named a First Team AHL All-Star on Thursday—his fourth postseason All-Star selection (2018–19, 2020–21, 2021–22). He’s closing in on what would be a league-record-tying third career AHL scoring title, posting a career-best 30 goals along with 43 assists for 73 points in 59 games. His 22 points in 12 March games earned him AHL Player of the Month honors. The two-time Calder Cup champion is tied for second in power-play goals (13), contributing to San Jose’s league-best 24.5% power-play efficiency. He also skated in three games with the Sharks this season, registering one assist. The 31-year-old has missed the last eight games with a lower-body injury. Poturalski joins Troy Grosenick (2016–17) as the only players in team history to be named First Team All-Stars—and is the first forward to receive the honor.

It’s a Must(y): Sharks 2023 first-round pick Quentin Musty made his pro debut on Saturday in the Barracuda’s 4–0 loss to the Ontario Reign. The 19-year-old recorded 59 points (30G, 29A) in 33 games this season with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves. Last season, he put up 102 points (43G, 59A) in 53 games and was named an OHL First Team All-Star.

Gears Cherning: The Sharks assigned 2024 second-rounder Igor Chernyshov to the Barracuda last week, and he made his AHL debut on Friday, notching an assist. In 23 games with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit this season, the 19-year-old tallied 55 points (19G, 36A). He missed the first three months of the season while recovering from shoulder surgery.

Powering Up: The Barracuda went 2-for-6 on the power play Friday and now lead the league with a 24.4% conversion rate. Danil Gushchin is pacing the AHL in power-play goals (14), while Andrew Poturalski is tied for second (13). Luca Cagnoni tops the league in power-play points (34). The Barracuda also lead the league in power plays drawn (283) and total power-play goals (69)—a new single-season franchise record.

Dan the Man: Danil Gushchin’s 28 goals are tied for the second-most in a single season in franchise history, and his 14 power-play goals lead the league. From March 7 to March 28, he recorded points in nine straight games—the second-longest streak in team history. During that stretch, he also scored in five consecutive games (March 16–26), tying John McCarthy’s franchise record. Gushchin ranks fifth in the league in shots (216) and second in shootout game-winners (3). The Yekaterinburg, Russia native was recalled to the Sharks earlier this week and played in their final two regular-season games.
